Edu to surprise Man Utd with ridiculously cheap striker contract; thrilling title decision

There are rumours that Arsenal could sign striker prospect Ivan Toney for an insane fee, while Harry Redknapp has named the new Manchester City signing who could finally bring Mikel Arteta’s side the Premier League title.

Toney has been linked with several of England’s biggest clubs since the 2022/23 season, when he made a name for himself as one of the country’s most dangerous strikers, scoring 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances. Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have all made bids for the England star, although he has had a frustrating 2023/24 season due to a betting ban.

But Tottenham have signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, West Ham have brought in German Niclas Füllkrug and Chelsea are still hoping to win the race for Napoli star Victor Osimhen.

In the race to keep Toney in the Premier League, Arsenal and Man Utd are likely to gain the upper hand, with Saudi clubs also casting admiring glances at the goalscorer.

Brentford would ideally like to receive £60 million for their talisman, while clubs like Arsenal and Man Utd would prefer not to pay more than £40 million due to the fact that his contract expires next summer.

But pundit Stephen Warnock believes Arsenal duo Mikel Arteta and Edu are “haggling” and are considering signing Toney in January for the reduced £20m transfer fee if they fail to sign him this summer.

“I think they (Arsenal) need a striker,” said the former Liverpool defender. “It’s good to have those options. I think it’s nice to know that as a substitute you have the opportunity to change a game and sometimes the style of play.”

“I think that’s probably what they need to get to the next level. I just wonder if they’re waiting with the Ivan Toney situation to really get Brentford to the point where they don’t want to lose him in January for £20m or, even worse, the year after, for nothing. I think they’ll look at that situation.

“I also think they’re haggling a bit. I think Aaron Ramsdale might have to raise money and then they’ll try to do a deal for a striker.”

Meanwhile, former Tottenham, West Ham and Portsmouth manager Redknapp has suggested that further injuries to Kevin De Bruyne at Man City could go a long way in helping Arsenal end their wait for the Premier League title.

“Pep Guardiola still has a great team at his disposal,” said Redknapp. “And City are still the team to beat. However, you have to remember that Kevin De Bruyne is now missing more games and picking up injuries, and that some players in the squad are ageing; Kyle Walker is a year older.”

“I just feel like Arsenal are going to be so hungry to win a title. This could be the season they do it.”
