‘Emily in Paris’ returns tomorrow: Here are 5 important things you shouldn’t forget

Warning: This article summarizes past events from the series and contains spoilers. Season 4, Part 1 starts on August 15th.

“Emily in Paris,” the fashion-conscious, easy-to-consume comedy-drama series with lots of love triangles, struts into its fourth season on Netflix.

The story will pick up after the season 3 finale and Gabriel and Camille’s chaotic engagement party. (Don’t know what I’m talking about? I’ve listed everything you need to know below.) In the season, viewers will meet Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), the social media maven and American who still lives in Paris.

In season 4, Emily’s best friend, the talented singer Mindy (Ashley Park), as well as her always confident boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), her rather disgruntled crush Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and the charming chef and father-to-be Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) return.

Season 3 of Emily in Paris premiered in December 2022. If you want to relive events you watched over a year and a half ago, grab an Instagrammable dessert and settle in with this recap. Netflix has released the first 5 minutes of Season 4, Part 1, and you can watch it here on the streamer’s Tudum site.

What you should consider before Season 4

In the first season of “Emily in Paris,” the title character moves from Chicago to Paris after her employer, the Gilbert Group, takes over the luxury marketing company Savoir.

In Season 3, Emily must decide whether to stay with her mentor Madeline of the Gilbert Group or join Sylvie and her French colleagues who leave Savoir in the Season 2 finale. She tries to do both at the same time, but fails. Ultimately, Emily decides to stay in Paris rather than return to Chicago with Madeline, and ends up at Agence Grateau with her old Savoir friends.

While Emily has her work situation sorted out, a lot of things that happened in Season 3 still need to be resolved in the near future. Here are five important details to remember before streaming Season 4, Part 1.

The engagement party disaster

Season 3 was eventful for Camille and Gabriel. Their relationship quickly entered a tense phase – Camille ignored Gabriel in Greece – they got engaged and spontaneously decided to get married at their engagement party. Camille also traveled to Greece to see the artist Sofia, with whom she is more than just friends.

During the final leg of this dramatic series of events (the unplanned wedding), Camille told Gabriel she couldn’t marry him because she knew he and Emily loved each other. She also enlightened him about Emily’s pact not to date him. And yes, all of this happened at the altar.

Not surprisingly, Emily’s boyfriend saw Alfie as second choice and left Emily.

In the trailer for Season 4, Part 1, Emily says she’s single. Is the ambiguous ending a sign that she’ll stay single this season?

A pregnancy concussion

There was another twist at the end of the finale. During Gabriel and Emily’s private conversation, Gabriel revealed to Emily that Camille was pregnant. She cut her trip to Greece short, not for the sake of her relationship, but to tell him the big news.

In the trailer for Part 1, Emily mentions that she’s the only one who knows about the baby (she’s talking to Mindy, who of course knows too). Although the love triangle between Emily, Camille and Gabriel is getting more complicated, Emily hasn’t said goodbye to the chef yet, so fans who want to see Emily and Gabriel together have a reason to watch the trailer.

The Eurovision Song Contest

In season 3, Nicolas was introduced by conglomerate JVMA, a new love interest for Mindy alongside her boyfriend and bandmate Benoît. Emily suggested a song Benoît had written for Mindy – Mon Soleil – to Nicolas as a possible track for a commercial, but Benoît had other plans for the tune.

In the season 3 finale, Benoît surprised Mindy – who he was no longer dating – and revealed that he had secretly submitted the song to the Eurovision Song Contest. It was selected for the competition, which would lead to further musical performances by Mindy in season 4. The finale also confirmed lingering feelings between Mindy and Benoît, who appear to kiss before Mindy receives a call from Nicolas.

Gabriel’s Michelin star dreams

In season 3, Gabriel aimed for a Michelin star and succeeded. He negotiated with Antoine and Antoine’s current CFO Alfie, who offered the hard-working chef a share in the restaurant. Gabriel upped the luxury factor and changed the name of the restaurant from Chez Lavaux to L’Esprit de Gigi after his grandmother Gigi.

In the finale, Emily’s colleague Luc contacted his ex-girlfriend, a Michelin inspector. In short, L’Esprit de Gigi impressed her and she discreetly told Luc that the restaurant was on its way to a Michelin star. Luc passed these feelings on to Emily and Gabriel, who were ecstatic about the wedding and were caught in a disaster.

Julien has had enough

Emily’s spotlight in front of clients increasingly bothered her colleague Julien in Season 3. After Emily hijacked one of his pitches in the Season 3 finale, he appeared to respond to an email offering him another position. Julien has long been part of the Paris marketing dream team, so it would be sad to see him leave Agence Grateau for a competitor.
