Not everyone can wear short hair. But those who can, like Mia Farrow, Twiggy, Hailey Berry and Michelle Williams, to name a few, go down in history for it. One of the women who will forever be remembered for her amazing short hair, especially her super short pixie in 2010 and 2011, is Emma Watson. Although she had different haircuts before and after her pixie, she still remains one of the reigning queens of the cut.

Although there was a lot of criticism of the short haircut, Watson didn’t care. In October 2012, she spoke to Glamour about the reaction she received when she cut off her locks, among other things. “Of course men like long hair. There’s nothing to say,” Watson told the magazine. “Most of the guys around me were like, ‘Why did you do that? That’s such a mistake.’ And I was like, ‘Well, honestly, I don’t care what you think!’ I’ve never felt more confident than I did with short hair – I’ve felt really comfortable in my own skin.”
While Watson eventually grew her hair back out, she cut it short again for Prada’s just-released Re-Nylon collection. Granted, we don’t know if it’s real or if she’s just wearing a wig, but either way, Watson looks amazing as always. Super short pixie in 2010
In the summer of 2010, Emma Watson debuted her super-short pixie hairstyle in a now-deleted post on Facebook – and it was phenomenal. Within days, major media outlets were reporting on the dramatic cut and asking fans to give their opinion on it. Although not everyone was a fan of the look, that didn’t seem to bother the actress too much. She later told Entertainment Weekly that she found it “liberating.”

She wore the super short cut for all of her public appearances this year, including the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and several talk shows in support of the film. Whether she was dressing up or down, the pixie cut always looked perfect.
Long pixie cut
By the time summer 2011 rolled around and Watson was doing press for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, her pixie cut had grown out quite a bit. Although this is often a difficult phase to get through – and probably the only reason pixies can look so awful – Watson looked fantastic with the short cut. She didn’t try to speed up the growing-out process by opting for extensions like some do, but kept it plain and simple with a dramatic side part, 2010s style.

In July 2012, Watson attended the MTV Movie Awards with a hair color much lighter than her usual brunette and a punky version of the pixie cut—which is really all you can do at this point. The thin cut was a good alternative to the inevitable mullet hairstyle you get when you try to get your pixie layers to be one length.

In 2013, Watson starred alongside Seth Rogan and a number of other comedians for the film This Is the End. When she showed up at the film’s premiere, she wore a classic, sleek bob tucked behind her ear. To avoid detracting from the cut, Watson kept her makeup and jewelry minimal for the event. After all, when you have one of the best bob hairstyles, there’s no point ruining it with too much of everything else.

Although her hair was longer between 2013 and 2023, Watson appeared at the Prada Spring/Summer 2024 show in September 2023 with a sophisticated bob cut. She also followed the flirty beauty trend by tying it all together with a large bow at the back of her head. It was a very feminine look that bordered on sassy, and of course, Watson pulled it off perfectly.
