Everything about Lil Wayne’s mother Jacida Carter

Lil Wayne and his mother Jacida Carter have been through a lot together.

The “Lollipop” singer was born on September 27, 1982 to Jacida and Dwayne Michael Turner. Jacida was 19 years old when she gave birth to the rap icon and raised Lil Wayne – whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. – alone.

Lil Wayne has never taken his mother’s sacrifices for granted. In a Mother’s Day letter he wrote her in 2010, Lil Wayne praised Jacida’s strength over the years.

“You are my heart and soul. Please never forget that,” he wrote, as Vice reports. “Every obstacle that came our way, you handled with the grace and dignity that I can only emulate.”

Jacida, often referred to as Ms. Cita by Lil Wayne, is a constant presence in his music. She is featured on the cover of his Grammy-nominated album Carter Vand she can also be heard on several tracks on the album.

Jacida and Lil Wayne have had a close relationship throughout their lives. Here’s everything you need to know about Lil Wayne’s mother, Jacida Carter.

She raised him as a single mother

Jacida was born in New Orleans on August 30, 1962. She met Lil Wayne’s father, Dwayne Michael Turner, and gave birth to their son at 19. The couple married when Jacida was 21, but divorced when Lil Wayne was 2 years old.

Jacida remarried to a man named Terry. However, they divorced in an unknown year when Lil Wayne was still young.

After her second divorce, Jacida started dating Reginald McDonald. At that time, Lil Wayne was interested in rap and Reginald was a supporter of this idea.

Jacida initially did not support her son’s passion for rap. Lil Wayne told Emmanuel Acho on his Unpleasant conversations In a YouTube series, he revealed that he had mental health issues during his childhood, recalling that after Jacida found out he had lied to her about his class schedule, she said she wouldn’t let him continue rapping.

“When I was told I couldn’t have what I wanted, what I dreamed of, what I longed for, which was to rap, I was willing to die for it,” Lil Wayne explained.

One day, he found a gun belonging to Reginald in his mother’s bedroom and attempted suicide at the age of 12.

Lil Wayne rapped about the tragic incident in his track “London Roads.”

“Ms. Cita, I remember reaching into your gun drawer / Holding her to my chest and missing my heart by inches, oh Lord,” he rapped.

Jacida spoke about Lil Wayne’s suicide attempt on his 2018 album, Carter Vin the song “Used 2”.

“I still don’t know to this day. Was he playing with the gun or was it an accident? I still don’t want to ask him, but I never asked him after all these years. Was it an accident or was he playing with the gun? So I never really found out what really happened with him and that shooting,” she said.

Lil Wayne recovered from the incident, but was soon faced with another tragedy. In 1997, Reginald was murdered. Lil Wayne considered Reginald his father and even got a tattoo to commemorate his life.

“Happy birthday, Reginald ‘Rabbit’ McDonald,” Lil Wayne wrote in a Facebook post on March 9, 2016. “I miss you, dad. Hope you’re proud.”

Jacida married her current husband Avery Goff on April 14, 2012. The ceremony took place in New Orleans and they have been married ever since.

In his acceptance speech for the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective’s Global Icon Award, Lil Wayne revealed that his mother asked him for a grandchild when he was only 14.

After enjoying initial success and going on a six-month tour, Jacida felt lonely after Reginald’s death.

“I came into my mom’s room when I was 14,” he said, according to Hot New Hip Hop. “She asked me for a kid because my father was killed. And her son had just gone crazy and gone on his first tour, and we didn’t know he was going to be six months old. When I got home, she said, ‘Son, I can’t live in this house by myself. We gotta figure something out.'”

She knew Lil Wayne would be a great father

Another excerpt from Jacida on Carter V In the film, she recounts how she knew her son would be a great father. Lil Wayne’s ex-wife Antonia “Toya” Jackson became pregnant when she was 14 and he was 16, with their first daughter, Reginae Carter, who was born in November 1998. Even though they were both young teenagers, Jacida was sure Lil Wayne would be successful as a father.

To Carter VIn her song “Open Letter,” Jacida spoke about finding out her son was going to be a father at such a young age. She said, “You know, when he told me Toya was having a baby, I said, ‘You’re all young, you know you’re all young.’ I said, ‘Be the best father you can be.’ And he really is.”

Lil Wayne’s daughter Reginae was named after his stepfather Reginald.

Jacida appears with young Lil Wayne on the cover of his 12th studio album. Carter VLil Wayne told ESPN that it was important to him to include a picture of himself and Jacida on the cover of the album.

“It’s perfect. I always take a baby photo and this time I wanted one with my mom,” he said. “This album means a lot to me. People have been waiting for this album and I’m at the point in my life and stuff where I want my mom to be on it. It’s more than an accomplishment, it’s an achievement.”

When he revealed the cover, he said his mother had no idea she would be featured on the front of the album.

“I didn’t tell her about the picture I used for the album cover,” he told ESPN. “I don’t think she’ll be upset, but I know from personal experience that she doesn’t really like that picture of herself because she’s not looking at the camera.”

Jacida can be heard in several other songs on the album, mostly in speaking roles. Carter VThe opening track “I Love You Dwayne” is a tribute from Jacida to Lil Wayne, honoring his success and expressing how much she loves him.

“Lil Wayne, mama, I’m proud of you. You’ve come so far, I can’t wait for your album to come out,” she said in the song. “I’m just proud of you. You’re my rock, you’ve always been my rock. Mama loves you, I love you.”

Besides Lil Wayne, Jacida has another son, Semaj Carter, who was born in 2001. Jacida and Semaj’s life remains mostly private, although she thanked Lil Wayne for taking care of her in her song “I Love You Dwayne.”

“You take care of me and my son. Your little brother, we have never lacked anything. I thank the Lord every day for keeping us on this earth,” she said.
