On Friday morning, FWPD sent out a PSA asking for help in finding missing 12-year-old Niya Ellington.

They describe her as 5’8″, 130 pounds and black. They added that she was last seen between 5 and 9 a.m. near the Canterbury Apartments. She was wearing a white shirt with a picture of Tupac Shakur on it and black pants and was believed to be distressed and in danger.

Following FWPD’s PSA, Breohnt Ellington, Niya’s father, spoke with 21Alive.

Breohnt said he received the call about his daughter’s disappearance around 9 a.m., an hour after he arrived at work.

He remembers hearing his daughter up and about in her room as he left in the morning, but notes that he did not check on her before he left.

After Breohnt and Niya’s mother received the call that Niya was missing, they immediately contacted the police to issue a PSA.

Breohnt believes that Niya’s disappearance was due to an incident that occurred at school on Thursday.

“I took her phone away… and now she’s gone,” Breohnt said. “Sometimes I might be too harsh… but you never want to be in a situation like this,” he added.

Breohnt says he just wants Niya to come home.

Anyone with information on Niya Ellington’s whereabouts is asked to call FWPD at 260-427-1222.
