Find your prey with a newly renamed app

Exclusively for the News-Standard

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has released an updated version of the official mobile app used by hunters and anglers across the state for harvest reporting, electronic field registration, digital license viewing and more.

Previously called “My Texas Hunt Harvest,” the mobile app now has an updated look and a new name, “Texas Hunt & Fish,” but includes the same great features users know from the previous version of the app.

The Texas Hunt & Fish mobile app allows hunters and anglers to meet reporting requirements for wild turkey, white-tailed deer and alligator gar hunts and to electronically register on-site for most public hunting areas accessed with the Annual Public Hunt (APH) permit. Fully digital license holders must use the Texas Hunt & Fish app to make digital tags for deer, turkey, oversized redfish and spotted seatrout.

One of the newest features being introduced during the 2023-24 hunting season is the app’s ability to display Chronic Wasting Disease zones relative to the hunter’s location, provided they have location services enabled.

A full list of features includes:

• Online and offline functionality – use the app independently of the data service once it is installed and your account is connected

• Attach and display your hunting and fishing license (note that paper license holders must still carry physical tags when hunting tagged species)

• Complete mandatory hunting reporting for wild turkey, white-tailed deer and alligator gar

• Digital marking of hunted game and fish (requires the purchase of a corresponding digital hunting and/or fishing license)

• Track and view your harvest progress

• Conduct electronic on-site registration (eOSR) for many public hunting areas

• Download maps of many public hunting areas to use with or without data service

• View the boundaries of the CWD zone and, if the location service is activated, determine your position in relation to the nearest zone

• Report your harvest in Spanish or English – report your harvest in English or Spanish

Users who do not wish to use the app can complete the mandatory harvest reporting online.

Users who have already downloaded the old version of the app on their devices will need to update to the new version starting August 15 to get all the latest features and ensure proper functionality of the app.
