First responders join in the family fun at the Kroc Center

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – To honor first responders and their dedication to the community, the Kroc Center in Biloxi hosted a private ribbon cutting ceremony for them and their families on Sunday.

“Family fun can be expensive, but having a safe environment like this where you can swim, play basketball and do all kinds of activities is great,” said William Shipton of the Biloxi Police Department.

The First Responder Special on Sunday allowed community heroes and their loved ones to enjoy everything the facility has to offer for free.

Shipton enjoyed the indoor water park with his family.

“Of course when they offer free swimming at the Kroc Center, you jump at the offer. It’s great that they did this for the first responders and we appreciate the support they give us. It’s just fun.”

The Kroc Center is normally closed on Sundays – but Major Jerry Friday says it’s the least they can do to show their appreciation.

“I realized that their families are sacrificing just as much as they are. We just want to show them our appreciation and thank them for their service to our community,” says Major Friday.

More than 80 people have confirmed their participation in the event.

Attendees also had the opportunity to meet volunteer Izzy Karns and of course RJ Croc from Miss Mississippi Teen.
