Five free and inexpensive things to do with the whole family in Middle Tennessee | Community

If you’re in Murfreesboro next week, there are a couple of great free events happening there: one at Middle Tennessee State University celebrating fans of MTSU athletics, and another celebrating India at the Discovery Center just down the street from MTSU. Lucky Ladd Farms is hosting a full day for kids who want to test out their building and farming skills. Your family can sign up for a 5K run that will take you to the field at Nissan Stadium. And if your little ones are really young, CoComelon and friends will also be downtown this week.

As part of our series on free and cheap things to do with the family, here is our weekly roundup of places to spend time together over the next week:

MTSU Fan Day

Middle Tennessee State University will hold its annual MTSU Fan Day on August 24 at Floyd Stadium on campus. Athletes from all of MTSU’s athletic programs will be on hand to sign autographs and more. The event is free to the public and also includes giveaways, blow-ups, face painting and balloon art.

Construction and agricultural equipment festival for children

On August 24, Lucky Ladd Farms will host the Kids Fun Construction and Farm Equipment Festival. At the event, kids can put on hard hats and try out real machinery on a farm. Lucky Ladd has built a specially designed construction site for kids to operate and maneuver real mini excavators while learning to dig, move and dump soil. The festival also features hands-on activity centers where kids can hone other craft skills: They can swing hammers, operate power screwdrivers and take on plumbing challenges with other kids.

Discover India Day (Free Day)

The Discovery Center is hosting a free admission day that also celebrates India. The science center in Murfreesboro will have several special things on site that day – it starts at 9 a.m. on August 24th and ends at 4 p.m.

Titans Foundation 5K

The Titans Foundation 5K invites families to run on August 24th and finish at the 50-yard line at Nissan Stadium. Each runner will receive a t-shirt and a ticket to the December 8th game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Post-race activities include refreshments, performances by the Titans Cheerleaders, Blue Crew & T-Rac, and an awards ceremony.

CoComelon party time

A CoComelon experience awaits you at the Sheraton Grand Nashville Downtown Hotel. The event will take families into the world of CoComelon with a cozy corner, activity and art center, light and dance floor, and visits with JJ, Cody and more. It takes place August 23-25.
