Five-star offensive tackle chooses Georgia Tech over Florida State and Ohio State

Florida State launched a massive recruiting campaign earlier this summer and received ten commitments between late June and late July, but the Seminoles lost out on several decisions in early August.

On Monday, five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty announced his commitment to Georgia Tech over Florida State, Ohio State and Tennessee. This is a disappointing ending for the Seminoles, as Petty was one of the program’s remaining top prospects and visited Tallahassee on July 28. FSU also hosted him on an official visit in June.

In the end, the Georgia native decided to stay in the Peach State with the Yellow Jackets. Academic education is very important to Petty and Georgia Tech is one of the most prestigious schools in the country in this category.

Petty played on both sides of the ball during his junior season. He started as an offensive tackle and recorded 58 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery as a defensive end. Petty is a state champion in wrestling and also competes in track and field.

The 6’5″ and 260lb offensive tackle is ranked as the 14th most promising young player, the 2nd OT and the 4th recruit in Georgia for the class of 2025, according to 247Sports.

While this is a gut punch, Florida State still has one of the best offensive line classes in the cycle. The Seminoles have commitments from five-star Solomon Thomas and four-star Peyton Joseph. It wouldn’t be surprising if the coaching staff brings back some offensive tackles they lost this summer, such as four-star Ziyare Addison (Oregon) and four-star Lamont Rogers (Missouri). There are also some underrated options that could move up the roster.

Florida State has 13 commitments for the class of 2025, ranking 17th in the nation.

The Seminoles will have the opportunity to face the Yellow Jackets in the season opener on August 24th.
