Florida State famously missed the cut for the final four College Football Playoffs despite its 12-0 record and Atlantic Coast Conference title last season. FSU quarterback Jordan Travis was injured, which played a role in the Seminoles’ loss, and transferred to another team after the 2023 season. DJ Uiagalelei, who transferred from Oregon State, is expected to take Travis’ place on an offense that ranked 19th nationally in scoring (34.6 points per game) but otherwise gave way to a great FSU defense. That could be a hallmark for coach Mike Norvell and Co. as the playoff field expands and there’s a chance to re-establish Florida State as an elite program after it missed the CFP and was beaten 63-3 by No. 6 Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

Georgia Tech was a competitive team in 2023 with a 7-6 season that the Yellow Jackets capped with a 30-17 victory over UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl. Coach Brett Key had a successful first full season after stepping down as interim coach in 2022, and he brought back a number of key players to try to reach a new level in 2024. Quarterback Haynes King is a dual threat who powers one of the most productive running attacks in the country along with running back Jamal Haynes, who rushed for 1,257 yards. Top receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is a junior with a chance to hit the ground running after catching 48 passes for 714 yards and six touchdowns as a freshman.
