France swept Italy in the semifinals on Wednesday with 3-0 victories by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21. The French team lost once in Group A, 3-2 to Slovenia, but bounced back with a 3-2 win over Germany in the quarterfinals and a 3-0 win over Italy in the semifinals. Trevor Clevenot led the way with 17 points, scoring 15 of them in his 24 attacks.
Poland beat the USA with a 3-2 victory (25-23, 27-25, 14-25, 25-23, 15-13), which represented a comeback from a 1-2 deficit in three sets. Wilfredo Leon Venero was a force for Poland, scoring 26 points in 41 attacks, the highest point of the match.
