Free Activities! These 6 events in Brevard don’t cost a dime


Free concerts, street festivals and boat cruises: These events in Brevard this weekend cost nothing.

1st concert of the Adagio Sax Quartet in Melbourne

The Adagio Sax Quartet, an ensemble of the Melbourne Municipal Band, will perform a summer concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, at Harbor City Baptist Church, 2711 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne. The program includes Bizet’s “Carmen Fantasy,” Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” and Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag.” Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. 2nd Titusville Arts and Crafts Fair

BPO Does #183 will host an indoor arts and crafts fair at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 17, at the Elks Lodge, 3450 Kilmarnoch Lane, Titusville. Food can be purchased. Call 321-567-4143 or 321-446-3442.

3. Cocoa Beach Friday Festival

Downtown Cocoa Beach hosts a family-friendly Friday Festival every third Friday of the month from 6-10 p.m. along the Minutemen Causeway. There will be live music, food trucks, and local artisans showcasing their unique crafts. Admission is free. Visit cocoabeachmainstreet.org.

4. 3. Sunday walk on the sidewalk in EGAD

Discover the charm of the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) on a Sunday stroll through the neighborhood on the third Sunday of every month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thrive Local, 1416 Highland Ave., Melbourne, hosts the event, where local artisans showcase their handcrafted wares, from jewelry to artwork to delicious treats. 5. Metaphysical representation in the solar tree

Dr. Nita Dockery will speak at the Suntree/Viera Public Library, 902 Jordan Blass Drive, Melbourne, on Saturday, August 17 at 1 p.m. Dockery is a teacher of healing, intuition, meditation and all metaphysical topics and will offer a hands-on experience with information on how to trust and “tune in” to your own strongest intuition. Admission is free. Call 321-255-4404.

6. Ranger-led tour of Turkey Creek Sanctuary

Turkey Creek Sanctuary, 1518 Port Malabar Blvd NE, Palm Bay, offers free ranger-led tours from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the first and third Sundays of each month (except holidays). Participants should meet at the sanctuary’s nature center and bring sturdy tennis shoes or boots, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, snacks, binoculars and a hat. Tours take place on the boardwalk and various trails. Each tour is led by a park ranger and focuses on the plants and animals found in the sanctuary. Tours total about 1 to 1.5 miles and should take about 1 hour to 1 1/4 hours. Admission is free. To register, call the nature center at 321-676-6690.

7. Free boat ride to Samsons Island

Samsons Island is a 52-acre passive nature island in the Banana River that is only accessible by water. There are public docks on the south, east and north sides of the island. The Town of Satellite Beach offers free boat transportation to and from Samsons Island Nature Preserve at 9 a.m. every first and third Sunday of the month, weather permitting. Guests meet back at the main dock at noon for the return trip. Tours begin and end at the Satellite Beach Fire Department, 1390 S. Patrick Drive. Reservations are required.
