The federal government will again provide free Covid tests this fall, just in time for flu season. The home test kits can be ordered at COVIDtest.gov starting in late September. Households can request four tests each.

The Biden administration made the announcement on Friday, a day after the FDA has announced the approval of two new vaccines designed to protect people from new strains of the virus. Covid infections have skyrocketed this summer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has begun measuring virus levels in wastewater samples. According to NPR, the CDC announced earlier this summer that high or very high levels of Covid-19 had been found in nearly every state’s wastewater.

Dawn O’Connell, Assistant Minister for Preparedness and Response at the Department of Health, noted that this was the seventh time the Government had made free Covid testing available since the pandemic began and recommended that everyone over 6 months of age should receive a Covid and flu vaccination booster in the autumn.
