LOCK HAVEN – Families are budgeting and shopping this month to ensure their children and teens have new sneakers for the first day of school.

The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank helps qualifying families with free, new, quality shoes for little ones through high school teens. The Shoe Bank is open two Saturdays this month from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., by appointment only.

Appointments for Saturday, August 17th are filling up quickly, but there are still appointments available for Saturday, August 24th.

The Shoe Bank is set up like a store and is located at Covenant United Methodist Church, 44-46 W. Main St., Lock Haven. Young customers will find a selection of whole sizes and many half sizes. They can pick out a pair of free new shoes as well as some free new socks and two books of their choice. This month, the Shoe Bank is also giving away a small back-to-school gift such as crayons, a highlighter or a notebook. Some backpacks are available.

Everything is free.

The shoe bank serves families who live in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin Elementary School catchment area and have an active Compass app or valid letter. Families can also be referred through an agency or organization.

To book your appointment, text Diahann or call her at 814-571-5324 every weekday between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. She will schedule an appointment now. You can still make an appointment the same morning the shoe bank is open. However, August is a popular month, so it’s best to book now.

If you are unable to make your appointment, please call or text to reschedule, even if you must call the morning of your appointment. We maintain a waiting list.

You may not need this service, but you know a family that does. Please spread the word.

Funding is provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation, a grant from the M&T Bank Foundation, civic groups, churches and individual donors.

The shoe bank is a completely volunteer service. Helping hands are especially needed this month. Anyone interested is welcome to check out this volunteer opportunity. For more information, contact Diahann or find “Lock Haven Shoe Bank” on Facebook.
