Freshmen come to the University of Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Despite Monday’s severe heat warnings, the University of Iowa is beginning the first day of the new school year. For thousands of students, it will be their first time on a college campus.

“I’m a freshman and I don’t really know how everything works yet,” says Brandon Cabrera, a freshman who is eager to learn more about the school.

Several students have transferred to the University of Iowa from other universities across the country.

“The campus is just very beautiful and easy to explore on foot,” said Shelby Rinaldo, who transferred here from a school in Illinois.

“Where I come from, in my small town, you can’t walk everywhere,” Cabrera said. “There are stores everywhere, you walk to work, to school, to the grocery store.”

Another transfer student, Geoffrey Daniels, came from Texas Tech University and is looking forward to an opportunity in landscaping.

“I’m looking forward to the fall colors,” Daniels said. “I’m from Texas and we don’t really have fall, it’s green and then there’s no life.”

After a series of welcoming events, they are all ready to start the school year.

“Iowa City seems like an incredible place,” Daniels said. “There are so many cool things to do, so many cool people we’ve met.”
