Frizzy hair disappears instantly with an ordinary 20 pence kitchen item

As the thermometer rises and we enjoy the warmth of summer, many of us are struggling with the less desirable side effect of the hot, humid weather: frizzy hair.

Battling unruly curls can certainly dampen our good mood during the warmer seasons. But fear not, for those who want to enjoy the sunshine without frizzy hair, help is at hand.

Beauty booking platform Fresha comes to the rescue with its five top tips to keep your hair sleek and smooth all summer long.

Instead of spending money on expensive hair products or struggling with hair straighteners, the hair care specialists at Fresha suggest some ingenious home remedies, including a nifty trick using an everyday item from your pantry.

Aluminium foil

Divide your mane into sections and grab some aluminum foil. Wrap the foil loosely around each section, then push it down to smooth out any frizz.

You can buy tinfoil for around 20p per metre from major retailers such as Tesco or Asda. The metal is great at eliminating static and leaving hair shiny and smooth. This technique is particularly effective on straight or wavy hair.

Coconut oil

According to the experts at Fresha: “Regular use of coconut oil in the hair can help reduce frizz in the long term by applying topical masks.”

“But it also works in the short term because the oil prevents hair from absorbing water, which can help prevent frizz in humid climates. Add a drop or two of melted oil to your dry hair to prevent frizz. This works on all hair types.”

Cold water

The pros point out: “Curly hair often tends to frizz more quickly in heat, so try washing your hair with cold water as this will help seal the hair follicles from the start.”

They added: “To further lock in moisture and maintain your curl pattern, apply a curl cream or curl mousse while your hair is still damp. These products will help hydrate your hair, reduce frizz and prevent curl breakage by creating a barrier that locks in moisture and adds definition to your curls.”

For best results, finish by gently scrunching your hair with your hands to accentuate the natural shape of your curls. Avoid touching your hair too much while drying to minimize frizz in the heat.

silk

“Switching to a silk pillowcase or wearing a silk cap while sleeping can reduce friction and prevent frizz,” the experts explained.

Silk is gentler on hair than cotton and can help you achieve smooth, manageable curls. After styling, brush your hair with a brush sprayed with hairspray.

Finally, the experts give another tip: “This not only helps to fix your style, but also tames flyaways. It also prevents frizz throughout the day and keeps your look smooth and well-groomed for longer.”
