The Fishers Art Center, a partnership between the City of Fishers and the Indy Art Center, offers 12,000 square feet of art exhibition space, three art studios and a flexible theater with numerous configuration options for performances, gatherings, events and, of course, classes. Adults will find a variety of classes for beginners and advanced students in drawing, painting, clay, digital printing, printmaking and more.

It’s also a place where parents can do art with their children as young as 2 in weekend classes like “Little Big Art: Messy Art” or in individual classes like “Art & Stories” for 2- to 4-year-olds. There are many different class options for kids ages 4-14, as well as more advanced options for high school art students in the “Teen Institute” classes. Classes include clay, painting, drawing, character design, and even digital art for kids and teens.

The two-hour Make It Take It (MITI) courses include a “Paint Your Pet!” painting class, as well as “Clay Play Wheel” on the pottery wheel and a “Digital Art on the iPad” course.

Fishers Art Center also offers private lessons, classes for homeschooled children, and one-day fall break camps for children ages 6-14 and team building workshops. For more information about the classes, visit FishersArtCenter.org.

If you love art but are not ready to create yourself, you can always come and look at art. Artwork by Kurt Vonnegut in Nonsense runs through August 18. On September 3, the Art Center will show “Interwoven,” featuring works by Austen Brantley, a sculptor from Detroit, and Susan Tennant, a sculptor from Indianapolis. The Art Center is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

While there is a fee for the courses, visiting the exhibitions is always free. There are also tuition assistance available for applicants, which you can apply for through FishersArtCenter.org.
