Germany lost in the semifinals on Thursday to a French team it had not beaten six days earlier, leaving it in contention for the bronze medal. For the second year in a row, the French team overcame the poor shooting of young star Victor Wembanyama (4 of 17 for 11 points) to help it beat Germany, thanks in part to a strong defensive effort.
After the Germans only had a 40 percent hit rate as a team against France, they now want to show an overall better performance in the bronze medal match against Serbia.

Serbia had put the NBA-star-studded USA under pressure in the semifinals, but the Americans saved the best for last, outscoring Serbia 32-15 in the fourth quarter to win 95-91. Nikola Jokic (17 points) and Bogdan Bogdanovic (20) combined for 37 points for the Serbs, who lost to the USA for the second time at the Olympics and the third time since a friendly in July.
