Google Gemini can now write better emails than you – here’s how to use it

Google’s Help Me Write has two new features that help you refine emails faster than ever before.

Help Me Write is a Google Gemini AI feature that originally appeared in Gmail and offered suggestions for completing sentences. It then expanded to Chrome earlier this year and includes writing suggestions and rephrasing. It looks like more updates are coming for certain Gmail users.

In a new blog post about Workspace updates, Google announced two new features. The first is a new “Help Me Write” option that can be used to refine email drafts on the web and mobile. When users use Gemini to refine emails, they can choose between three options: Formalize, Elaborate, and Shorten. These new options can be added to drafts to perfect your email and save time. For example, you can type a rough draft of what you want to say, and Gemini can then turn it into a formal draft with a single click.

The second new feature focuses on two new keyboard shortcuts for Help Writing and Refine Draft. On mobile, the Help Writing option now appears in the body of the email when an email draft is empty and expands when tapped. The Refine Draft shortcut appears when an email draft contains at least 12 words and is located below the email body. Users can select the option by swiping on the screen and can polish, formalize, refine or shorten their draft, or simply compose and write a new draft.

It should be noted that these options are enabled by default and there is currently no admin control over the feature. However, all of these features are currently available in web browsers, Android, and iOS for Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, the Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on, and for users with the Google One AI Premium.
