Google has finally developed a weather app for Android

Google just announced a new Weather app, exclusive to the new Pixel line of devices. The app uses generative AI to quickly summarize weather reports. It’s also fully customizable, so you can prioritize the information that matters most to you.

The new Pixel Weather app, available in Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, is powered by Gemini Nano. Gemini Nano is Google’s latest on-device AI model designed to run without Wi-Fi or data. It’s part of Google’s plan to rebuild Android “with AI at its core.”

Pixel Weather supposedly uses this model to create more precise and accurate weather reports. Google says it will let you see detailed metrics, “like when the rain will start and stop.” Gemini Nano presents these reports in clear bullet points, so you can learn everything relevant about the current weather at a glance without having to scroll through a bunch of numbers. For example, depending on the weather, it might tell you to pack sunscreen or an umbrella.

Second, the Pixel Weather app has a Material You-style modular design, meaning it has floating tiles for each section. The current temperature and weather conditions are displayed at the top of the app against dynamic backgrounds. Everything else in the app can be moved and repositioned. There are dedicated carousels for hourly forecasts and 10-day forecasts. Expected precipitation amounts, humidity, air quality, sunrise and sunset times are all displayed in separate dynamic tiles. The app also has four nice rounded icons that display information about wind, UV index, visibility and barometric pressure. You can reorder any tiles, carousels or icons to bring the relevant information into focus.

Google has also optimized this app for the new foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold by splitting the app interface into two clear columns when unfolded, eliminating the need for scrolling.
