Government diverts traffic in Ikoyi for road repairs

The Lagos State Government will divert vehicular traffic from Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi on Saturday, August 24, between 9am and 5pm and on Sunday, August 25, 2024, between 9am and 12pm as construction work takes place along the corridor.

In a statement published on X.com, the state Minister of Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said that in view of the diversion, an alternative route had been worked out for motorists on the corridor.

Motorists travelling on Bourdillon Road towards Falomo Roundabout have been advised to turn right at Lateef Jakande Road towards Onisiwo and then towards Oniru Road to link Thompson Avenue Roundabout with Thompson Avenue and then turn right onto Bourdillon to continue their journey.

Osiyemi explained that motorists in the lane towards Alexander Avenue from the Falomo roundabout would not be affected by the diversion.

He assured commuters that the diversion would be managed by the state’s traffic management personnel and urged motorists to cooperate in the measures taken.

“Motorists are asked to be patient as this diversion is part of traffic management for the safety of motorists during construction,” he said.

The government last month announced a 90-day traffic diversion for motorists on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge, which will take effect on July 22, 2024.

In a statement, Osiyemi pointed out that the diversion was due to the deplorable state of the asphalt pavement and expansion joints on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge.

He said the diversion would be done in two phases – on the Ojota-bound lane and on the Yaba/Ojuelegba/Maryland-bound lane, while alternate routes were being worked out for each phase of the repair.
