Guide to new food, music and things to do

Tips for your safety in summer

While summer can be fun, it also comes with some dangers. Here are the best tips to stay safe this season.

Is there anything new about the Champlain Valley Fair? It has been entertaining people every year for over a century with animal and plant exhibits, thrilling rides, celebrity concerts, numerous fairground games, and food that tastes good but may not be so healthy for you.

Within these categories, of course, there are plenty of opportunities to discover new things. You might be amazed to discover that zucchini can actually grow as big as a small RV, or that you’re much better at those water gun games than you thought.

You can always find something unexpected at the Champlain Valley Fair. Here’s a look at this year’s concert lineup, as well as other activities and food making their debut at the 10-day celebration in Essex Junction, which begins August 23 and runs through September 1.

Flo Rida, Gin Blossoms and more: Live music program at the Champlain Valley Fair

  • 7pm Friday, August 23, Rapper Flo Rida and opener Landon Cube ($39 to $185)
  • 7pm Saturday, August 24, veteran pop-rock groups Gin flowers And Toad the wet sprocket with Vertical horizon ($29 to $185)
  • 7pm Friday, August 30th, a night of country music with Cole Swindell with Tigirlily Gold ($39 to $185)
  • 19:30 Saturday, August 31, “Roots & Boots” with Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin And Collin Raye ($29 to $185)
  • 19:30 Sunday, September 1st, an evening with Pentatonix ($39 to $185)

What shows and things can be seen at the fair?

Other activities taking place at the fair for the first time this year include:

  • 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. daily, a new hypnotist on stage at the Champlain Valley Fair, Katharina Hickland
  • 12:00, 15:00 and 19:30, new dogs show new tricks in Ready, go, dog show

Who will be inducted into the Vermont Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2024?

The Vermont Agricultural Hall of Fame is not new—the fair has hosted it since 2003—but this year’s inductees are new to the Hall. The honorees are emerging leaders Brian McGarry from Enosburg Falls; Agricultural innovator Ellen Kahler of Starksboro; and lifetime achievement selections of Dr. Albert Moraska by Charlotte, Paul Doton by Barnard and Russell Allen of Westminster.
