Guru says Jay-Z wrote the verse “Talk Up” for Drake during the tour

Young Guru revealed how Jay-Z’s verse on Drake’s “Talk Up” was written for 2018 Scorpio came about. The news comes after the Toronto rapper released a treasure trove of content – nearly 100MB of unreleased music and video footage. The clip shows Drake impatiently waiting for Jay-Z’s verse. Jay-Z, who was on tour with his wife Beyonce, rushed to finish the song.

“He’ll get off stage, take a shower, probably have a drink and then get back together with Guru (to write and record),” he says. “This process will take two hours.” Jay-Z’s longtime collaborator and producer Guru shared more details on Instagram Stories. According to him, Jay-Z wrote the verse nearly two hours after he came on stage and recorded the track at the concert venue.

“He literally wrote the verse after a full two-hour show,” says Guru

“The story behind it is beyond crazy,” Guru began. “We’re on OTR 2. HOV has to do a verse. We had a show that day. He literally wrote the verse after a full two hour show…” The post continues: “I had an after party. The promoter had to wait in the parking lot of a stadium for two hours. I made it to the club at like 1am. Just in time for my performance. And that’s my short story!!!

Guru isn’t the only one talking about Drake lately. Andre 3000 recently opened up about why the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar upset him. In an interview with Crack Magazine3000 explains: “I got a little sad at some point,” he admitted. The Outkast rapper continued: “In the early rap battles, there were kids in the park rapping against each other. But today, it’s not just people who rap.” Andre adds: “You have people with 100 employees. You have livelihoods, empires, companies, contracts – everything can be at stake. If you have nothing to lose, then of course it’s doable. But if I’ve already done it, I’m not sure if it’s even worth it anymore.”
