Gurgaon: Deputy Municipal Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav directed officials of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), Public Works Department (PWD) and Marketing Board to repair the damaged roads within the next 15 days.

The aim of the officials’ meeting held on Thursday was to address the deteriorating condition of Gurugram’s roads, which are riddled with potholes that are causing problems for residents.

The city has been experiencing heavy rains for the past few days, resulting in the formation of many potholes on the city’s roads, severely affecting traffic. Many residents shared videos and photos of the potholes on social media to raise awareness about the inconvenience caused by the poor road conditions, an HT report said.

The officials identified key spots that need repairs including Dwarka Expressway, Golf Course Extension Road, Southern Peripheral Road, Basai and Sectors 4, 7, 10, 21 and 23. The deputy commissioner issued strict instructions to key officials from various departments to ensure that all the city roads are free from potholes within the next 15 days. This urgent action followed public outcry over the deteriorating road conditions due to the ongoing heavy rains.

During the meeting, Yadav stressed the urgency of the situation and highlighted that the potholes not only hamper traffic but also pose a serious risk of accidents. Stressing the need for immediate and comprehensive action, he directed all departments to give priority to the repair work and ensure that the roads are restored to a safe condition within the stipulated time frame.

The HT report also mentioned that Yadav visited several areas in the district on Thursday to take stock of the situation. He said, “This field inspection will underline the administration’s commitment to ensure that the work is not only completed on time but also meets the required quality standards. We will ensure quality control by the outsourced agency,” HT quoted him as saying.

GMDA officials reported during the meeting that they have divided the roads under their jurisdiction into four zones to start the patching work. Furthermore, PWD officials said that they have formed four teams, divided into departments, to repair the roads managed by their department by August 31.
