Halloween time at Disneyland Resort: During this spooky-beautiful festivities, there’s plenty of spooky cuteness that shines, or rather glows. Decorations, treats, Haunted Mansion Holiday (which opened in late July) and Plaza de la Familia at Disney California Adventure Park are all on the agenda. Admission to the Anaheim theme parks requires a ticket and reservation. Note that Oogie Boogie Bash requires a separate ticket.

Black Restaurant Week: Honor your favorite restaurant and restaurateur at this multi-day, super-tasty treat, an annual event that “celebrates the flavors of African American, African and Caribbean cuisines.” Local participants in the food fest, which runs August 23 through September 1, include Dulan’s Soul Food, Cakes by Chanté and several other gems.

626 Night Market: The delicious variety of amazing food first appeared at Santa Anita Park in July this season for not one, but two tasty weekends. After a brief hiatus, the stall-packed food wonderland is back for the last two weekends of August. Noodles, spiral potatoes, boba, birria, ramen, bubble waffles and plenty of snack superstars are on the vendor list.

El Segundo Art Walk: So many interesting creative things are starting in El Segundo—it’s the pioneering birthplace of the Experimentally Structured Museum of Art, which will move to Lawndale in 2023—and August 24 is a wonderful opportunity to soak up all that artsy fun. The casual walking tour is free, no ticket required, and there’s live music, too.

From Bullock’s to Macy’s: Maybe you’ve bought a t-shirt or a baby gift at Macy’s on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena and marveled at the amazing architecture and design details. Here’s your chance to learn more about a beautiful building: Pasadena Walking Tours will explore the famous spot on August 25 (just remember to buy your ticket in advance).
