Harris is the favorite in the betting markets for the first time after Walz’s election

Vice President Kamala Harris has taken the lead in betting for the first time since being named frontrunner.

According to Real Clear Politics’ betting averages as of Thursday, Harris has a 50.7% chance of being elected president, while former President Donald Trump has only a 47.9% chance of winning the election.

Thursday marked the first time Harris was considered the favorite to win the election, and the first time since May 1, when President Biden was still in the race, that Democrats were favored over Trump. That day, Real Clear Politics’ betting averages had Biden narrowly ahead, 42.3% to 42.2%.

Since that day, Trump has been able to further increase the gap between himself and Biden, and on July 15 he reached the peak of his favorite status at 66.2 percent.

But Trump’s lead continued to shrink in the weeks following Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse Harris, who quickly secured the Democratic nomination.

Trump’s plunge came to a head on Thursday, just days after Harris nominated Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, a move the Harris team believes will help her solidify support in key Midwestern swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Harris was either ahead or tied with Trump in all major betting markets tracked by Real Clear Politics on Thursday, with her biggest lead coming on the popular platform Predictit, a New Zealand-based prediction market that offers “stakes” on political outcomes.

Harris shares were trading for 57 cents on the platform Thursday morning, while Trump shares were trading for 46 cents, giving the vice president an 11-cent lead. Share prices on the platform range from $0.01 to $0.99, meaning the price of a share essentially represents the percentage probability of a particular outcome.

The move by the betting favorite comes after Harris has also overtaken Trump in many national polls, leading the Real Clear Politics poll average for the first time on Monday. That lead marks the first time the presumptive Democrat has been ahead since Sept. 11 of last year, when Biden had a 44.5% to 44.3% lead.

Neither the Trump nor Harris campaign teams immediately responded to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment.
