Hartford City woman transported fentanyl from Ohio

HARTFORD CITY, Ind. – A Hartford City woman is facing drug charges after reportedly repeatedly traveling to southwest Ohio to purchase fentanyl.

Sydney A. Hendricks, 25, was arrested July 30 after her car was stopped for driving 53 mph in a 45 mph zone on Indiana 3.

In an affidavit, a deputy with the Blackford County Sheriff’s Department wrote that he “monitored” Hendricks’ trips to Trotwood, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton, where she reportedly purchased the powerful synthetic opioid often linked to local drug overdoses.

After the traffic stop, Hendricks initially insisted that she was returning from Terre Haute, but later admitted that she had been in the Dayton area to purchase fentanyl.

Upon arrival at the Blackford County Jail, officers said they found four plastic bags containing a total of 20.9 grams of fentanyl in the Hartford City woman’s possession.

On August 1, Hendricks was charged in Blackford District Court with trafficking in narcotics (a Level 2 felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison), possession of narcotics (a Level 4 felony punishable by a maximum of 12 years in prison), and possession of paraphernalia (a misdemeanor).

Court records show that no charges had previously been filed against her.
