Henkel completes acquisition of Shiseido’s professional hair business in Malaysia

While Schwarzkopf Professional is a trusted global expert in hair color innovations and trends, Shiseido Professional creates holistic experiences that connect inner and outer beauty using its powerful J-Beauty solutions and R&D capabilities in premium hair and scalp care, hair loss control, styling and perming.

The completion of the acquisitions in Malaysia and Taiwan on January 1, 2023 is the final step in Henkel’s acquisition process of the Shiseido Professional business in the Asia-Pacific region. On July 1, 2022, Henkel completed the acquisition of Shiseido Professional in China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Thailand. In the 2021 financial year, Shiseido Professional generated sales of more than 100 million euros and employed around 500 people.

Through the acquisition, Henkel has become a leading hair care company in the Asia Pacific region. This includes a significantly stronger market position in Japan and China, as well as establishing a presence in South Korea and a leading position in Thailand. With the Asia Pacific region as a base for growth and innovation, a J-Beauty Innovation Center will be established in Tokyo, focusing on product development and ingredient formulation for consumers in the region.

Henkel Consumer Brands’ Professional Hair division generates sales of over 1 billion euros and holds leading market positions in various international market segments. The division is one of the three largest beauty companies worldwide and offers a broad portfolio of hair care, hair styling and coloring brands exclusively for hairdressers, such as Schwarzkopf Professional, Bonacure, Igora Royal and Authentic Beauty Concept.
