Hilarie Burton Morgan wears her grey hair with pride. The 42-year-old actress reposted an Instagram reel shared by hair colour analyst Francesca Cairns, showing a number of celebrities wearing their silver in different styles. Other celebrities featured in the video include Sarah Jessica Parker, Andie MacDowell, Jamie Lee Curtis and Meryl Streep, among others. The post garnered a lot of attention, with followers celebrating the natural beauty of grey hair in the comments section. “How wonderful to see so many beautiful women just wearing grey despite the pressure to ‘look young,'” wrote one person, and many others chimed in with similar praise.
Cairns responded to the excitement by writing in the video’s comments section: “Disclaimer: I get a lot of messages saying they’d like to see more grey hair videos and rightly so! Beauty knows no age. This video is to show that you can wear your hair however you FUCKING want.”

Morgan herself is a vocal advocate of the acceptance of grey hair. In an October 2023 essay for New beautyshe reflected on her journey with silver hair. “I saw my husband (actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan) slip into silver fox territory and receive nothing but glowing admiration from fans and media,” she told us. “His silver made him better in their eyes. His age was an advantage that made him respectable. That’s what I wanted.”
So I let it go,” she continued. “Everything. The idea of holding on to a youthful version of myself didn’t make sense. I wasn’t respected in my youth. It wasn’t a golden era of my life. It was trial and error… and more error. It was experimentation. When my silver grew back, I liked the way I looked — maybe for the first time. I liked what it did to my eyes and my skin tone. I liked it when other women would come up to me and be happy to have someone to practically hold their hand while they lost their own color. I liked being free.
And so I don’t begrudge anyone holding on to their idea of beauty, even if it’s fake youth,” she concluded. “But my idea of beauty is the power of this next phase that comes after youth.”
