Having a sick family member is truly heartbreaking, but that doesn’t mean we have to take the other healthy children for granted.

In this story, that’s exactly what OP felt when he received his parents’ birthday present for him.

It seemed unfair that her sister got a car and he only got a book and a $25 gift card.

Read the full story below and tell us what you think.

My sister was diagnosed with cancer last year.

It was hard on our family and even harder on her.

I love my sister and tried to be there for her as best I could.

OP helped a lot around the house.

I also did everything I could to make life easier for my parents.

I took over all the housework, cooked every day, cleaned the house, did the laundry, looked after my younger siblings and took more care of them.

Thankfully, she is doing really well and recently completed her treatment, which is great and we are all grateful.

His sister received a car as a birthday present from her parents.

Our birthdays are two weeks apart and hers was two weeks ago.

My parents bought her a new car to celebrate after everything she’s been through, which I can understand.

She deserved it, but I was a little surprised because I thought they didn’t have any money.

When OP previously asked for money for a car, his parents did not help him.

Since last year, my father has been unwilling to help me buy a used car because he allegedly does not have the necessary money.

I didn’t even want him to pay for all this.

I was saving up and just wanted them to help me with the rest, but he kept telling me they didn’t have any money for that.

And for his birthday he got something much smaller than a car.

Well, it was just my birthday and my parents bought me a book that I mentioned in passing and a $25 gift card for take-out from a place I like.

I thanked them, but they saw that I wasn’t particularly enthusiastic and asked me what was wrong.

I told them that although I was happy about the gifts, I thought they would finally help me with the remaining $800 to buy the used car since they could now afford a new car for my sister.

Now they accuse him of ingratitude and jealousy.

But then they accused me of being jealous of my sister, who had just gone through something very traumatic.

And that I tried to relate everything to myself and why I couldn’t just be happy for her.

They said that after all, I had a job and could just keep saving.

Am I the idiot?

Oh no! Another family drama! Let’s see what Reddit users say about this.

It seems like they don’t know its value.
