Hololive VTuber doxxed after ‘catastrophic’ launch of mobile app

Hololive has finally launched its highly anticipated mobile app to an international audience, but a major oversight led to malicious users doxxing the agency’s talent.

With the global release of Holoplus, the community app was first introduced to the world on August 22nd. This included a community tab where fans can freely post about Hololive and share content related to its members and events.

However, this section was not moderated at launch, resulting in users sharing posts exposing the identities of Hololive VTubers. Likewise, the app was flooded with unfiltered adult content, despite the app only being accessible to those aged 13 and above.

Holoplus was also released without spam protection, allowing a single user to share the same post repeatedly without facing consequences. This oversight and the lack of moderation resulted in the Community tab being filled with controversial content.

Holoplus has been made available worldwide after months of beta testing.

Fans quickly voiced their concerns on Reddit, with one user commenting, “I’m not really sure what Cover expected when they released this app to the public in this state,” before later describing it as an “absolutely disastrous launch.”

Others highlighted the platform’s most problematic content, writing: “Saw a post doxxing all of EN” and “Some guy just posted photos of the talent in real life. This sucks.”

In response, Hololive temporarily banned all users from posting community content in the early hours of August 23. This ban was later lifted and all offensive content was removed.

Since this change, Holoplus’s community tab is moderated and posts that do not comply with the terms of use are deleted. This includes, but is not limited to, discriminatory statements, criminal acts and any actions that can be considered harmful to the company or its talent.

If you want to try the global version of Holoplus, you can download it for free from the App Store or Google Play Store, but it is not currently available in Europe or the UK. However, the developer Cover Inc. is actively working on bringing the app to those regions.
