Hot Girls Eating Pizza 10th Anniversary Party

Welcome to NYLON’s Party Report Card, where we tell you the who, what, where, why and when of this week’s hottest parties – and all the gossip you missed. This is the insider info you need to feel like you’re on the invite list. Sorry in advance for the FOMO.

WHAT: 10th Anniversary of Hot Girls Eating Pizza

WHEN: Thursday, August 8

WHO: Hayley Law, Bella Golden, Toni Bravo, Cobrasnake and more

WHERE: Chain in East Hollywood, Los Angeles

WHY: Celebrating a decade of pizza-eating It-Girls on Instagram

THE MOOD: Anyone who knows facilitator and curator Marta Mae Freedman knows she throws one hell of a party. Freedman’s Instagram project, Hot Girls Eating Pizza, started a decade ago as a way for her to meet women she admired in New York City for a hot slice of pizza; the account quickly grew and expanded to include IRL events where NYC creatives, makers, and It girls could meet and connect. This weekend, Freedman celebrated HGEP’s triumphant return to Los Angeles and 10th anniversary in true Marta fashion: with a pizza party, of course.

Actors, artists and editors gathered at Hollywood’s newest hotspot, Chain, an immersive dining experience by BJ Novak that serves modern takes on restaurant classics. Guests entered a bright red space and were greeted by a takeout-style bar serving—what else?—pan pizzas inspired by the nostalgic Pizza Hut versions we all remember from our childhood. Models and musicians floated through the crowd with mini martini glasses filled with maraschino cherries, and the drink of the hour was an Arctic Surge—a cocktail recipe using Absolut mixed with the fizzy flavor of the now-discontinued ’90s soda.

As guests sipped the signature cocktail and entered the bar—the DIY sundae bar, to be exact—something magical happened: A quick glance around revealed that no one was on their cellphone. Yes, the PacMan slot machine, crayons, and crossword puzzles provided plenty of entertainment, but the place was also brimming with real-life connections. All of the partygoers were dressed in their best California cool-girl clothes, courtesy of Free People, and danced to the electric sounds of Harmony Tividad, while film photographer Nesrin Danan captured the whole vibe.

BEST DRESSED: Miranda Harrison Morris wears Free People’s classic open denim overalls over a black knit T-shirt, oversized tinted sunglasses, and a red heart-shaped shoulder bag that can hold a pizza’s best accessory: a good old bottle of ranch drink.

HEARD: “I can’t hold pizza, wings And a martini in the photo booth, may I?”
