Well, the list might surprise you.

Most of us know the rules for staying outside the home. For example, leave the room clean and tidy, try not to spill anything and be considerate of other guests.

It goes without saying that you shouldn’t steal anything and if you enjoyed your stay, it’s always nice to leave a positive review.

But now a hotel employee has published a list of eight more things you should definitely not do.

“I work at the front desk of a hotel and I’m going to read out a list of things not to do as a hotel guest,” the woman explained on TikTok.

Appear on the wrong date

“Don’t show up the day after your reservation thinking you can check in right away. It jumped to no-show and we no longer have that reservation,” warned TikToker @mamafromarkansas.

Booking through third party providers

The TikToker also said that booking through third-party providers could be more difficult if the guest needs to change details of their stay.

“Don’t book through a third party, don’t book with them… we can’t touch that reservation because you booked through a third party,” she said.

Booking the wrong appointments

If you book the wrong dates, you have only yourself to blame.

“Don’t be mad at a staff member for booking the wrong dates for the reservation. It’s not our fault and we will email you a confirmation, so it’s your fault for not double-checking,” she said.

Check availability

The hotel employee explained that there was no point in asking repeatedly if there was no availability.

She warned: “If you call and ask if we have rooms available on a particular date and we tell you we don’t, please don’t ask four times… I look straight at the screen and I don’t see any availability for those dates.”

With children

“Please don’t bring your kids to an event and let them mess around the hotel and destroy everything while you sit at the bar and get drunk,” she added.

Leave a bad review

When you have a bad experience at a hotel, it can be tempting to leave without explaining the problem and then write a scathing review online.

But the hotel employee asked people not to do this.

“Please do not leave the hotel if you have problems and do not let us know. Then do not leave and leave us a bad review. You have not given us an opportunity to fix your problem,” she said.

Check availability

It is always worth checking whether the hotel meets your requirements before booking.

“Don’t book a hotel room without checking out what amenities the hotel offers,” she added.

Cancellation policy

The hotel employee warned people not to “be that person” who thinks the policies don’t apply to them.

She warned: “Please don’t be the person who thinks the guidelines don’t apply to you.”

“We have a 24-hour cancellation policy, which means you will be charged the late cancellation fee if you call on the day of your reservation.”

We were told!
