How the Ukrainian app “Armiya+” is changing military service

Ukraine has officially launched the Armiya (Army)+ app to reduce routine paperwork for military personnel and give them the ability to send reports to their commanders and access various other services electronically.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly announced the launch on August 8 at a meeting attended by a Kyiv Post reporter.

Zelensky also said that Army+ would become the second element in building a digital state in Ukraine, after the unified portal for public services Diia and the Mriya (Dream) app for children, parents and teachers, which is scheduled to go online in September.

He said Armiya+ will free Ukrainian army personnel from dealing with tedious formalities and outdated bureaucracy, allowing commanders and soldiers to concentrate on their duties.

The app will offer courses and training programs, access to all social services of the state, and will also include IT support and surveys to monitor the actual situation of military supplies.

“This is only the first version of Armiya+ – just as we added new features to Diia, we will continue to improve Armiya+,” Zelensky said.

Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said digitalization is an irreversible process that is essential for the effectiveness and performance of the defense forces.

“Armiya+ will provide all military services in a single system – banking, training, digital document processing, logistics, personnel affairs and feedback,” Umerov added.

The app allows soldiers to submit reports with a few clicks and track the status of the process at different stages such as “in registration,” “pending signature,” “approved,” or “rejected.” Commanders must justify the reasons for any rejections and sign documents electronically.

Armiya+ will allow reports to be sent for approval and will also conduct surveys so that the state can quickly gather the opinion of soldiers on various issues.

The app will also support online service requests and reliable communication through secure chats. Additional features, such as ammunition orders and evacuation requests, are currently being developed.

The app is available for download on Google Play and the App Store, but is only accessible to military personnel.

Digitalization in Ukraine is progressing rapidly and notable successes have been recorded, including various online platforms such as “Diia” for electronic documents, company registration and other services. Despite the current progress, challenges still remain, but Ukraine’s digital revolution continues.
