Cash App has settled a class action lawsuit related to a 2021 data breach that exposed the personal information of millions of current and former users of the app.

The mobile payment service was ordered to pay a sum of 15 million dollars in compensation for the damage caused.

According to USA TODAY, the plaintiffs sued Cash App Investing and Block Inc. because the companies “failed to exercise due diligence in securing and protecting consumer information.”

The lawsuit states that the December 2021 data breach resulted in “the unauthorized public release of the personal information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.”

The lawsuit also alleges that a former employee gained access to Cash App users’ personal information during his employment and downloaded the data without the users’ knowledge.

If you’re a Cash App user, here’s how to claim up to $2,500.

Can I file a Cash App statement claim?

If you had a Cash App account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, those users can make a claim. According to the mobile payment service, those who are eligible have not yet received a refund from Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or any other third party.

You can file a claim at cashappsecuritysettlement.com.

What claims can Cash App users make?

According to Cash App, people can request:

  • Losses to be paid out of pocket: Users can file a claim showing that their Cash App account was affected by the data breach. If a user is eligible for reimbursement after submitting the necessary documentation to the company, they can receive up to $2,500.
  • Lost time: Cash App users who file a claim may be entitled to reimbursement for lost time. Users can file a claim for up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour for time spent related to unauthorized users and data breaches.
  • Transaction losses: If a user suffers a financial loss and has not been compensated, he or she may file a claim for compensation for transaction losses.

By when do I have to make a claim?

Cash App users can submit a completed application form for review by November 18, 2024.

Can I make more than one claim if I have multiple accounts?

Cash App recommends that users submit only one claim form. If you have multiple Cash App accounts that need to be claimed, the mobile payment service recommends combining all of your $(InsertYourCashTag) and claim-related information into a single claim form for easier processing.
