Modern Warfare 3 Zombies features a wide variety of items for players to obtain, many of which can be extracted and stored in the player’s stash for later use. While many of these items are schematics, others are strange relics that are often tied to mission objectives or additional restricted areas called Rifts.
The long list of mysterious objects is joined by the Scientific Journala relic that players can obtain after completing the story mission “Union” in Act 4. Unlike the Giraffe Toy, which players obtain through clear mission objectives, the process for obtaining the Science Journal is less obvious.

How to get the Science Journal
Contrary to popular belief, players cannot obtain the Science Journal by defeating the Stormcaller. Instead, to obtain the Science Journal, you must Players must eliminate a total of 50 zombies in the Aether Storm.
The Aether Storm can appear in different locations, but can always marked on the tactical map as a large purple danger zone. However, it is not advisable to simply show up unprepared, as the zombies in Aetherstorm are buffed to a higher level than the zone it is in. Players should bring a level 2 or higher Pack-A-Punched weapon or a Wonder Weapon like the Scorcher to increase their chances of success.
Once players have eliminated a total of 50 zombies in the Aether Storm, A reward rift containing the Science Journal appears nearby.However, the Science Journal is relatively useless in its original state and needs to be updated before it can be used for its intended purpose.
The Science Journal can be removed and stored in the player’s backpack or supply stash so they can take it with them to another game.

How to update the Science Journal
Now that players have secured the Science Journal, they can move on to the Tier 3 zone to upgrade it. The exact location is the west side of the old town (F4 on the tactics card). Here the players must locate a triangle on the groundstand on it and shoot three purple runeseach visible from the position of the triangle.
Unfortunately, if the three purple runes don’t appear at this point, another player has already activated them. This means players will have to try again in a separate mission.
Once players have completed this step, A larger triangle appears towards a building to the eastFrom here, continue north, ignoring the two bridges that lead to the triangle, and Head on the stone structure overlooking the stairs to Pack-A-Punch. From this vantage point you look towards the Triangle.
This will start a ritual in which both a soul box and an area of effect will appear around the player. Endless waves of zombies will appear and the players must Eliminate enough within the area of effect to complete the ritual.
Although players can leave the stone structure while eliminating zombies, it is advisable to stay there. Pay attention to the prompt “Perform the summoning” while you are standing there. When the prompt appears, Press and hold the interaction buttonOtherwise, you will not be able to receive the enhanced Scientific Journal.
The area of effect will disappear once enough zombies have been killed, and if players manage to start the summon, a line of Hellhounds will appear. Defeating the Byamawl Hellhound boss triggers a Reward Rift.one that contain the gold version of the Science Journal.
From here, players can either keep the Science Journal to use in the same game or take it out and save it for another game.

The Science Journal is one of four items needed to open a Dark Aether Rift portal (E4 on the Tactics Map) near the Unstable Rift, which is connected to the story mission: Union.
