<p>We’re going to go all out and bet that heat and humidity are neither your friends—nor your hair. And while it would be nice to have perfect weather and perfect hair days in the foreseeable future, we’re not quite there yet. So we turned to stylist Brendnetta Ashley. Regardless of how you wear your hair, she’s got expert tips for dealing with frizzy hair in the summer and beyond.</p>
<p>The symptoms of frizzy hair are typically dry, undefined strands with lots of flyaways. And while frizzy hair can happen any time of year, many of us are more prone to it in the summer. “Hair dries out more easily in warmer weather,” says Ashley. “When curly hair becomes overly frizzy, it’s because it lacks moisture. Staying hydrated by drinking water and using moisturizing products can help prevent frizzy hair.”</p>
<h3>Tips</h3>
<p>However, extremely hot hair washing, excessive use of hot appliances, over-washing, chemical treatments and friction can all contribute to frizzy hair year-round.</p>
<h2>How to prevent and control frizz</h2>
<p>One word: moisture. Ashley recommends getting into the habit of using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner on wash days.</p>
<p>Some styling techniques also help minimize frizz. If you’re a beginner when it comes to hair care, you only need to follow three simple steps. “I like to use the LOC method, which is liquid, oil, cream,” explains Ashley. “This method is great for retaining moisture.” She starts with a styling mousse, then uses a hair oil, and finally a curl cream.</p>

<h2>Protecting hair from UV damage</h2>
<p>UV rays can not only damage your skin, but they can also damage your hair – and not just in the summer. Additionally, dryness and color loss can be side effects of sun exposure, so it’s important to protect your hair.</p>
<p>Luckily, all of the products Ashley listed offer UV protection, but she also shares another solution to keep your hair in tip-top shape this summer. “Make a fashion statement by wearing a hat,” she suggests. “It’s a great way to protect your hair from too much sun exposure and a great accessory.” Plus, it’s a great way to cover up any potential hair disasters.</p>
