The Phillies won and the ground shook.
On a night when an earthquake rocked Southern California, the Phillies played one of their best games of the past month, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2.

The Phillies (67-46, first in the NL East) have beaten the Dodgers (66-48, first in the NL West) four times in their five meetings.
However, they have not played well and had only won four of their last 17 games entering Tuesday night.
Tuesday’s game changed in the seventh inning, about the time the epicenter of an earthquake estimated at 5.3 magnitude struck about 90 miles away. Some of the stadium-goers, including Phila manager Rob Thomson, said they felt it.
Trailing 4-1 in the seventh inning, Shohei Ohtani came to bat as a potential tying runner with runners on first and second base, but All-Star relief pitcher Matt Strahm induced a flyout to right to end the inning.

Then the Phillies decided the game in the ninth inning with consecutive home runs by Edmundo Sosa and Kyle Schwarber.
“It was an absolute win,” Thomson told the Associated Press. “Everyone in the lineup was on base. We defended well.”
RHP Tyler Phillips (3-1, 4.39 ERA) will make his first career start against the Dodgers in the series finale on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Dodgers RHP Gavin Stone (9-5, 3.63) will look to rebound from a loss in Oakland in which he allowed five runs and eight hits in four innings.

Bryce Harper leads the Phillies, 29-25 on the road, with 25 home runs and a .541 slugging average. Kyle Schwarber has hit 14 for 37 with three doubles, five home runs and nine RBIs in the last 10 games.
Ohtani leads the Dodgers 35-21 at home with 34 home runs and a .625 slugging average. Teoscar Hernandez has hit 12 for 41 with three doubles, four home runs and seven RBIs in the last 10 games.
