Huntsville city officials cut ribbon for new transit center

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama (WAFF) – Huntsville city leaders cut the ribbon on the new transit center Thursday morning.

The new center on Pratt Avenue features 14 45-foot parking bays, larger platforms and an expanded rail network with potential for growth.

The entire center also complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It offers wheelchair users more freedom of movement.

Council leader David Little said the new centre showed the city was meeting the demands of growth.

“As a member of the City Council, I frequently hear from our community about the critical issues of growth and infrastructure, and expanding public transit is a common topic in those conversations,” Little said. “This new center, along with expanded service, represents a significant step forward in our efforts to build a robust and inclusive public transit system.”

Another feature is a green strip with a unique design that directs rainwater to irrigate the green area.

The transit center will open to the public on September 3. More information about bus routes can be found here.
