Jada Pinkett Smith has been open about her hair loss for years. But she doesn’t let it discourage her.

The 50-year-old actress, activist and Red Table Discussion The presenter, who lives with the autoimmune disease alopecia (which attacks hair follicles, causing bald patches and hair loss), shared a candid video showing off one of the bald patches on her scalp that she’s just happy to accept.

“Now I can’t help but laugh,” Pinkett Smith said, running her finger over a bald patch in the middle of her scalp. “You all know I struggled with alopecia and suddenly one day, look at this line here. Look at this.”

Laughing, Pinkett Smith continued, “It just popped up and it’s getting a little harder for me to hide it. So I thought I’d just share it so you don’t ask any questions.”

Instead of being upset about it, the actress prefers to look at her hair loss in a positive light. “But you know mommy is going to put some rhinestones in it. I’m going to make myself a little crown. That’s what mommy is going to do,” Pinkett Smith said.

She captioned her Instagram video: “Mommy needs to remove it down to the scalp so no one thinks she had brain surgery or something 😜 Me and this alopecia are going to be friends… Period! 😆.”

Last July, Pinkett Smith was inspired by 21-year-old Willow Smith (who she has with husband Will Smith) to shave her head completely. “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go,” she captioned the post.

“BUT … my 50s will be divinely illuminated with this shed❣️😜” the Red Table Discussion Host added.

In 2018, Pinkett Smith spoke about her “problems with hair loss” in an episode of Red Table Discussionand explained: “It was horrible when it first started. One day I was in the shower and I just had a couple of handfuls of hair in my hands and I just thought, ‘Oh my God, am I going bald?’

However, she eventually found a treatment that partially stopped the hair loss. “I get my little steroid injections and they seem to help but they don’t cure but they seem to help but I’m open to other ideas,” the star said in the video post.

Pinkett Smith, who showed off her short hairstyle, also said she was grateful for the advice she received.

“I just want to thank everyone for their efforts, all the doctors and holistic practitioners who have reached out to me about my problem. I really appreciate it,” she said. “And I will take any recommendations I receive very seriously.”
