Kendrick Lamar warned drake “not to talk about” Serena Williams, but in an archive video the former tennis star was the topic of conversation.
The 10-minute video was one of numerous uploaded to Drake’s surprise website 100GBs, which featured files of behind-the-scenes videos shot during Drizzy’s tours and album processes over the years.
Among them is a video entitled “Too Good Sandy” in the “Theo Edits” folder, in which the Toronto native is accompanied by his mother Sandy Graham during a session for “Too Good.” The song, which features Rihanna, is on Drake’s fourth album, Views.
But about eight minutes into the video, Graham asks her son if he plans to address his past relationship on the album. Drake replies that “Too Good” is about Williams, whom he briefly dated in the early 2010s. Williams would marry her husband, entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, in 2017.
“I’ll take a few joints, but this is more about me and Serena (Williams),” Drake says in the video, before his mother replies, “I thought so! I thought so!”
The 6th God continues: “When I write songs about women, I also write songs for them so I know what kind of songs to write.”
“If I’m going to talk about them, I’m going to at least do them justice by singing them a song they like, okay? So I know Serena very well. And I know she’s going to hear it loud and clear, but she’s also not going to hate me for it because it’s lighthearted.”
The artist’s mother then speculates whether Williams is dating someone new, to which Drake jokingly replies, “I don’t know, mom.”
During Drake’s diss track war with Kendrick over the course of the spring, Williams sided with her Compton co-star, referencing “Not Like Us” in a joke at the 2024 ESPYs. Ohanian, who has two daughters with Williams, also joined in on the trolling of Drake, having poked fun at each other with occasional subtle jabs.
The 100 GB dump also unearthed three new songs and additional clips featuring Cam’Ron, Lil Yachty and others.
