Ibrahim Cissoko scores the point for Wayne Rooney and Plymouth

Head coach Wayne Rooney picked up his first point in the Sky Bet Championship as Plymouth boss as the Devon side drew 1-1 with Hull at Home Park.

Visiting captain Lewis Coyle scored a superb equaliser in the 63rd minute after Ibrahim Cissoko had put Argyle ahead in the 52nd minute in front of 16,306 spectators at Home Park.

Dutch Under-21 international Cissoko, on loan from Argyle, was the first to react when Morgan Whittaker’s shot was blocked inside the six-yard box, brilliantly hammering the ball past a group of players, including Tigers keeper Ivor Pandur, into the net.

Argyle’s lead was short-lived, however, as Hull captain Coyle finished off a sharp attacking move with a brilliant finish onto the post following Miller’s pass across the edge of the box.

Plymouth started brightly in their first home game in the Championship, with midfielder Whittaker forcing Pandur into a save after eight minutes.

This sparked a wave of attacks from the home side, with Cissoko – on loan from French club Toulouse – firing in from 18 yards. His shot was blocked, but fellow midfielder Adam Forshaw was first to react, forcing Pandur into another save.

Hull countered: Marvin Mehlem forced Argyle goalkeeper Conor Hazard to parry the ball from close range with his outstretched leg in the 11th minute.

Argyle continued to press and captain Joe Edwards – who scored the final winning goal last season to secure Plymouth’s championship status – fired wide from 18 yards in the 13th minute.

City’s Abdulkadir Omur’s 34th-minute shot from just inside the box looked to be on target, with Hazard caught flat-footed had Green centre-back Brendan Galloway not made a brilliant diving save.

Hull finished the half with a dominant performance, although Omur’s free kick from 23 metres went wide in the 43rd minute.

Ryan Hardie almost scored for Argyle early in the second half when he beat the diving Pandur with a brilliant low shot from the right, but it flew inches wide of the far post in the 50th minute.

Again, Hull responded well and the impressive Liam Millar shot just over the bar in the 51st minute.

64th-minute substitute Freddie Issaka forced Pandur into a brilliant save with 20 minutes left after entering the box from the left and aiming for the far corner.

A minute later, the goalkeeper had to intervene again when Whittaker fired a powerful, steep shot from 23 meters.

No matter how hard Argyle tried – Rooney used all five substitutes – they could not find a way past the Tigers’ determined defence.

Another shot from Whittaker was blocked as Hull finished the game in attack, with two close-range shots blocked in succession by Galloway and substitute Jordan Houghton, who had returned from injury.
