“I’m 41 – a powerful smoothie is the secret to my healthy hair and it tastes delicious”

Hair changes constantly over time, but as we get older we suffer most from a lack of density and shine.

To revitalize your hair in your forties, one expert recommends preparing a smoothie full of seeds.


Michelle Ravanat, 41, transforms her smoothie into a nutrient bomb with chia seeds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

“This powerful hair smoothie is my secret to healthy hair at 41,” she told her YouTube followers. “It’s dairy-free, refined sugar-free, and tastes really good.”

To increase the oil yield, the beauty influencer roasts her chia seeds, flax seeds and sunflower seeds in a pan.

She explains: “Chia seeds are full of essential amino acids that prevent hair loss, while flax seeds promote blood circulation and prevent hair breakage.

“Sunflower seeds are a great source of iron, (I add) pumpkin seeds because of their oleic and linoleic acid. Roasting the seeds releases the oils and increases their effectiveness.”

The main ingredient in Michelle’s smoothie is lotus seeds, which are used in Asian cuisine for their protein and magnesium, both nutrients that help strengthen your hair.

“After the seeds are roasted, we can blend them into a nice mixture. It’s time to make the smoothie,” said Michelle.

In the first step, she pulverizes the seeds before adding the almonds and dates to the blender.

The almonds and dates provide a boost of iron, which boosts circulation. Next, Michelle adds water to create an emulsion.

“This recipe comes from Ayurveda,” she added, “the Indian medicine that is passed down from generation to generation.”

The abundance of fatty acids in nuts and seeds nourishes hair at the follicles. Omega-3 fatty acids in particular can help soothe and moisturize a dry scalp.

“This can help prevent dandruff,” explain Holland and Barrett. “By promoting scalp oil production, dry and lifeless hair receives a natural dose of nutrients that can add shine to your locks.”

The Healthy Body indicates that salmon, sardines and mackerel are the foods richest in omega-3 fatty acids.

“However, if you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, omega-3 is also found in nuts, seeds and dark green leafy vegetables,” it continues.

“Flaxseeds, chia seeds, kale, seaweed and walnuts are alternative plant sources. You can also look for eggs, milk, yogurt, bread and spreads that are fortified with omega-3.”

People who suffer from chronically dry and flaky skin can use oils and creams containing Omega-3 as a useful fatty acid supplement.
