In Wayne and Holmes counties, the school year will begin again in 2024/25

The Wooster City School District will see some changes to its administrative team this school year. The district has hired Jayme Tucker as principal of Melrose Elementary School to replace Kevin Wolf, who was hired as an administrator in another district.

Tucker has served as assistant principal at Cornerstone Elementary for the past two years. Prior to joining Wooster City Schools, she was a literacy coach at Parkview and a teacher in the Rittman School District.

“I look forward to getting to know and working with the students, staff and families of Melrose,” said Tucker, who lives in Wadsworth with her husband and two children.

Two new administrators will join the Wooster High School team to fill the vacancies. Jason Douglas will serve as assistant principal and comes to the district from Mansfield City Schools, where he was principal of a middle school and an elementary school, and assistant principal of an elementary school.

“I look forward to joining an outstanding school district like Wooster and contributing to the administrative team to serve our school community,” said Douglas, who lives in Mansfield with his wife. They have four grown children.

Jessica Shaffner will join the WHS team as eighth-grade assistant principal. She comes from Mansfield City Schools, where she served as middle school principal, middle school assistant principal, and middle and high school science teacher. Shaffner said she is excited to be part of a school district with such a strong reputation and to have the unique opportunity to prepare students for the next level of education and beyond.

“I’m excited to be with an age group I love and to learn more about how I can work with the WHS team to continue the excellence of Wooster High School,” said Shaffner, who lives in Mansfield with her three children.

Cornerstone Elementary welcomes Katie Roth as an administrative intern to fill the vacancy left by Tucker. Roth lives with her husband in Wooster in the Cornerstone district. She is leaving Dalton Local Schools as a language arts teacher. She looks to expand her impact on student achievement beyond the confines of her classroom and bring her passion for education and leadership to this new role.

“I look forward to supporting the staff and families of Cornerstone and being part of the school community that we have grown to love,” said Roth.

Superintendent Gabe Tudor thanked the departing staff for their service and welcomed the new members.

“I am thrilled to have Jason, Jessica and Katie join our administrative team and Jayme step in as Melrose’s new principal,” said Superintendent Gabe Tugor. “Each of them brings different strengths to our team and a strong desire to support students, families and staff. I look forward to our community getting to know and begin working with these amazing leaders.

The new team members took up their positions on August 1.
