INQToday: Vice President Duterte urges them to undergo hair follicle drug test: Let’s do it

Here is a quick summary of today’s top stories:

Vice President Sara Duterte is ready to be the first to administer a hair follicle drug test, responding to some calls for such a procedure.

Duterte’s statement followed a challenge from former presidential spokesman Harry Roque.

The Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday the country’s surveillance systems were put on alert after the World Health Organization declared Mpox (formerly monkeypox) a global health emergency for the second time in two years following an outbreak in Africa that could spread outside the continent.

No border control measures are recommended, but the quarantine office will “conduct interviews, especially with passengers departing from or arriving in African countries,” said Health Ministry Deputy Minister Albert Domingo.

The country’s statistics agency acknowledged that the food poverty line of 63.87 pesos per person per day was “inadequate” and announced that it would review the methodology for calculating poverty and food lines next year.

“It is really inadequate, but the way we have set the food threshold and the poverty line is geared towards the minimum basic needs and therefore has the least cost,” national statistician Claire Dennis Mapa said during a press conference.
