Instagram is testing new profile cards for creators

Instagram is testing new profile cards with select creators, offering another way to make your profile stand out and showcase your content.

As you can see in this example shared by Goldie Chan, Instagram’s updated profile cards are digitally flippable, offering a QR code for instant connection on one side and a profile overview and summary on the other.

The profile summary includes your picture and bio, as well as your profile category and business links.

It’s a handy summary of your IG presence and can be an easy way to get more people to connect with the app using a simple scan-and-follow process.

However, the question is how many people will actually use them. Instagram has had QR codes for profiles since 2018, but few seem to be aware of this and therefore actually use them.

Instagram has changed the format a few times and moved the location in the app, which probably hasn’t helped. But various versions of its QR codes have been around for some time.

And now IG seems to be making another push into QR codes, as in June the platform also added QR codes for broadcast channels.

Will QR codes prevail this time and get more people to scan digital links to access your profile in the app?

I mean, it probably won’t be a groundbreaking change, although it is a cool looking addition, but it does provide another option to make your IG presence stand out and give more people the opportunity to access your content.

Maybe Instagram should also try printing paper copies of these cards for creators, like it did with the Threads profile cards for the platform’s first birthday.

That would be cool, but of course much more expensive.

You’ll have to make do with IG profile cards for now.

You can access your IG QR code by tapping the “Share Profile” option on your profile. The new profile cards are currently in limited testing.
