With the third beta of iOS 18.1, Apple introduced new Apple Intelligence features for notifications. The notification summary option, previously available for the Mail and Messages apps, now works with all your apps.

Summarize notification previews
After updating to the latest beta, an Apple Intelligence setup flow is available that walks through some of the new features and includes settings for the Summarize Notification Previews section.

During setup, you can choose to summarize all of your notification previews or select which apps should use the summary feature. After setup, these settings can be customized in the Summarize Previews app under the Notifications heading.

Notification Summary lets Apple Intelligence filter out important details from an app’s notification groups and summarize them more succinctly, so you can see what’s important at a glance. In the Settings app:

Summarize the content of direct messages and notification groups to make them more concise and easier to read. The accuracy of the summary may vary depending on the content.

There are individual switches to enable or disable summary for each app individually, or for those who don’t want to use this feature, it can also be disabled completely.

You’ll see notification summaries on the lock screen. This feature pairs well with the new Reduce interruptions focus mode.

Like other Apple Intelligence features, Notification Summary requires a device that can run Apple Intelligence, so the iPhone 15 Pro models or an iPad or Mac with an M-series chip. The functionality is currently limited to developers who have installed the third beta of iOS 18.1, but Apple Intelligence will be released publicly later this year.

Today’s beta also adds the Clean Up tool to the Photos app for removing objects.
