Is Apple removing the Telegram app after allegations against CEO Pavel Durov?

After French police arrested Telegram co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov in Paris, an old hoax that Apple removed the popular private messaging app has resurfaced on social media platforms. The company has clarified that the platform complies with EU laws and that allegations, including that Durov misused the platform, are false.

Meanwhile, Toncoin (TON) price fell by more than 20% following the arrest of CEO Durov. TON has recovered slightly and is currently trading at $5.77.

Apple does not plan to remove the Telegram app

Rumors about Apple removing Telegram from the App Store and automatically deleting it from your iPhone. In addition, instructions are shared to prevent this from happening by adjusting some settings to prevent the app from being deleted.

However, these are posts that resemble Facebook posts from 2021. X Community Notes also debunked the latest posts on X, noting that “Apple does nothing of the sort. The image is from a now-debunked Facebook post from 2021.”

Meanwhile, Telegram has told X that it complies with EU laws, including the Digital Services Act, and called the arrest of French-Russian billionaire Pavel Durov over allegations of abuse on the platform “absurd.”

The platform said Durov frequently travels to Europe and moderation is in line with industry standards. The company expects the situation to be resolved immediately.

Digital resistance campaign

All accounts associated with Telegram, including the Toncoin crypto project and employees, are running the Digital Resistance and “Free Durov” campaigns with the TON Society.

The logo and profile pictures in the TON community channels will be replaced by the global symbol of digital resistance – the resistance dog. Pavel Durov created this movement in his fight to protect the privacy of platform users and freedom of speech.

“I would say the biggest pressure on Telegram is not coming from governments; it is coming from Apple and Google. When it comes to freedom of speech, these two platforms can basically censor anything you can read or access on your smartphone,” Durov said earlier in an interview.

The crypto community and well-known personalities such as Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Vitalik Buterin have called for Durov’s release.

The price of the Toncoin cryptocurrency has collapsed

TON price fell by 20% within a day following the reports of Pavel Durov’s arrest. The price has recovered by more than 1% in the last 24 hours and is currently trading at $5.77. The 24-hour low and high are $5.32 and $5.94, respectively. Moreover, the trading volume has dropped significantly.

Meanwhile, the Notcoin price has also fallen by more than 10% and is currently trading at 0.009593.

Resistance Dog (REDO) price has increased by more than 160% in the last 24 hours and is currently trading at $0.708, with trading volume increasing by a massive 900% in support of the Telegram founder.
