The general belief was that the New England Patriots would begin the season, at least initially, with veteran Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback, ahead of rookie Drake Maye. However, rumors outside of training camp continue to mount and suggest that may not be the case.
Maye has received very positive reviews, especially in recent days, and there is increasing speculation that he could surpass Brissett. Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal reported on Sunday that Maye’s confidence has increased enormously since Thursday’s successful preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Drake Mayes confidence increased in the last two training sessions per @GregABedard: “I can’t stress enough how different Maye has looked since his successful outing against the Eagles’ reserves.”

That’s consistent with some other observations. MassLive’s Mark Daniels said Maye is “on the upswing” and is getting rave reviews from his teammates.
Drake Maye is on the rise. He seemed more confident today and his teammates are raving about him.
It will be interesting to see what happens in this QB competition over the next few weeks.

Patriots coach Jerod Mayo has insisted that the team hold an open competition for the quarterback job. If that’s the case, Maye could actually win it. At least, that’s what many fans seem to be hoping.
