It’s time to return to Middle Earth, as the anticipated second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is almost here. Read on to find out the exact time of the season 2 premiere, as well as the full release schedule so you don’t miss any new episodes of the fantasy drama.
The Lord of the rings Prequel series – the first season of which premiered on Prime almost two years ago and which expensive show always — takes place thousands of years before JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit And The Lord of the Rings Books. The second season further explores Tolkien’s story of the Second Age of Middle Earth.
“Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or allies, the aspiring Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power that will allow him to bend all the peoples of Middle-earth to his dark will,” the season two synopsis reads. “As friendships are tested and kingdoms begin to crumble, the forces of goodwill fight ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters most to them… each other.”
As hinted at in the trailer, The Rings of Power Season 2 will feature the return of Sauron and one of Tolkien’s most epic battles, the Siege of Eregion. Co-showrunner JD Payne promised that the series has reached a higher level since Season 1, which received mixed reviews.
“It’s honestly a big help to have done it the first time. In the second season, we know our actors a lot better,” said Payne The Hollywood Reporter. “We know their voices. We know how they live in these characters. So I think we knew where the sticking point was when it came to how we could incorporate their strengths into the text. Another aspect is that in season one you had to build a whole world. You had to introduce the audience to the Second Age.”
Co-showrunner Patrick McKay added that they were “tremendously” proud of the first season, but unless they “reach a higher level each time,” they wouldn’t clear their bar. “I think we made that claim (two years ago) not to brag, but to say, ‘This is the bar.’ That’s where it’s at. Needs to be,” he continued.
